IT'S TIME TO GET BACK TO LIVING

Updated: May 19, 2021

I’m so happy 2020 is in the rearview mirror. They say what won’t kill you will only make you stronger. I think I can speak for us all when I say we’re plenty strong at this point and more than ready to get back to pre-pandemic life.

But that’s just it. Will things ever be the same? Especially in the special events industry?

Have we tried to convince ourselves, by necessity, that a world of virtual fundraising galas, Zoom staff meetings, and remote collaboration and project management has been just as gratifying and fulfilling as our pre-Covid way of working and socializing?

I hate to say this, but we have not been fully present these last 12 months. Our attentions have been divided. We wear business casual on top and pajamas on the bottom. One foot at home one foot at work. Never able to give either world 100 percent.

Virtual special events don’t have the same impact if you can see (and feel guilty about) your sink full of dirty dishes or hear the neighbor’s lawn mower. While virtual living was a great way to survive the times, it is not at all effective, gratifying, or satisfying.

It’s time to get back to in-person events. Nothing motivates, inspires, and brings joy like being fully present and immersed in safe, live experiences with co-workers, friends, and like-minded community members.

I look forward to helping to make that happen.
